CM King Favor Community Safety Act

THE BRONX - Community leaders are coming out in favor of the Community Safety Act, which is pending in the City Council.
Among other goals, the legislation seeks to strengthen the ban on racial profiling. Another part of the bill would establish an independent inspector general to investigate the policies and procedures of the NYPD.
NAACP President Ben Jealous and the Rev. Al Sharpton, along with elected officials and community groups, are calling for its passage.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the concept of implementing an independent inspector general is fundamentally flawed.
